Ghostwriter Q & A

The EditGhost Answers Your Questions

Q:  Can you guarantee my work will sell?

A:  No.  The EditGhost is not a publisher or studio and so cannot guarantee a sale.  Frankly, if you find a ghostwriter who "guarantees" a sale, be very wary.  In such cases, you'd be advised to evaluate the potential for conflict of interest.

Q:  Is ghostwriting common?

A:  Very.  Every year hundreds of books, though attributed to celebrities or even big-name authors, are actually written or heavily edited by a ghostwriter.  I am told that a large percentage of all published books are completely or substantially ghostwritten.

Q:  What type of payment do you accept?

A:  Major credit cards are usually accepted.  CLICK HERE to see more about procedures and payment options.

Q:  Can I get a rush job?

A:  Really, I want to say "yes" to clients whenever possible. Still, I remember a sign posted in an old watch repair shop:  "You want it done fast or you want it done right?"

Is it possible to write rapidly and hash out excellent ideas and dialogue?  Of course.  Personally, this is how I produce my best rough drafts, but as Hemingway said, "Writing is rewriting."  So this is the process:  Write.  Put it out of  sight for a few days.  Look at it anew.  Prune, clarify, hone.  Repeat.  This is how you polish rough drafts into shining prose that will get noticed, and this process by definition takes time.  I am very hesitant to complete work in a rush.

Q:  Do most writers seek the help of a professional editor or ghostwriter before attempting to sell their work?

A:  Certainly most of those who eventually succeed! Just as those in hundreds of professions require a teacher/coach/insider in order to prosper, writers need a teacher/coach/editor or ghostwriter to help get the job done right and make it ready for presentation to industry professionals.

Q:  Don’t I just need proof reading?

A:  Probably, you need much more.  Many freelance editors promote the myth that most manuscripts are rejected due to mistakes in punctuation or spelling.  In fact, what editors seek and seldom find is a great story, professionally written.  Errors and omissions in elements of structure, story and format will kill your chances every time.  EditGhost packages are designed to bring your work up to an acceptable level in the most critical areas.  Only then will the work be proofread and ready for submission.

Q:  Will my idea be safe with the EditGhost?

A:  Absolutely.  First of all, I have plenty of my own "ideas" and associated writing projects.  Second, our ghostwriter work agreement provides complete protection of your idea. You may also submit your own non-disclosure agreement for my signature.

Q:  Can you write for me in exchange of royalties?

A:  Sorry, I can't.  Again, I have many projects in the works.  I schedule a certain amount of the remaining time each week for editing, ghostwriter duties and coaching.

Q:  Who gets the writing credit when I use a ghostwriter?

A:  With books and most other print formats, you get complete, 100% credit.  For screenplays, I can write a complete screenplay from your draft or idea and we may share screenwriting credit, or you may get all the writing credit, based upon the fee structure and nature of the project.
